About Us - History
Knowledge is power. Everything Solus has discovered since day one has formed an unmatched knowledge
center positioning clients to gain control over spend in non-core operations.
On May 1, 2001, Solus Industries was incorporated under the name of Roofing People with the purpose
of becoming the most influential advocacy website providing essential information to protect corporations
from corruption in the roofing industry. The webpage consisted of over two hundred pages of information
viewed by thirty to forty thousand users each month. This phase of the company provided extensive interaction
with the end-users across a broad base. It identified the most common needs and challenges corporations
experienced within the roofing industry including vendors, suppliers, manufacturers, and consultants.
During this phase, Solus became a resource to the roofing industry. They utilized our services for
workplace forms, association contacts, and identification of materials produced by manufacturers.
This interaction provided great insights into the industry’s behavior and patterns.
Solus Industries had our finger on the pulse of the industry. We were sought out to attend industry
round tables, received publication write-ups in multiple industry magazines and various associations,
and received the highest booth attendance at the NRCA (National Roofing Contractors Association) annual
convention two years in a row (the only two years attended by Solus), and was invited to speak at
ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers.)
The building blocks in this phase established a resource base of vast amounts of information.
This information formed ideologies and provided confirmation on these visions. It also established the
foundation to begin the vendor base.
The transition from Roofing People as an advocacy website to Solus Industries as a portfolio management
company resulted from knowledge. The knowledge identified from the industry provided great insights to how
facility departments were managing portfolios. To confirm our theories, Solus turned our attention to
Fortune 1000 companies. We researched 100’s of facility departments to identify their management methods.
Regardless of the management tactics utilized, portfolio problems continued to increase in scope, frequency, and
cost. Solus’ determination to produce a successful outcome would require a revolutionary management approach.
Solus would need to intercede on the behalf of the corporations and orchestrate the resources available in the industry.
During this phase in the transition, Solus focused on designing the fundamental policies, procedures, and
software to manage this revolution. Understanding our core roots of knowledge is power; Solus identified key
performance matrixes, data collection methods, categorization of data, and the overall data definitions.
In addition, focus was directed to identifying and selecting the local vendors to be utilized to execute the
required work to maintain these national portfolios.
Over the past 10 years, Solus has been very deliberate on the clients with whom we have chosen to partner.
Our strategic business partnerships are with key individuals in leadership positions who protect the bottom-line
of the corporation. This controlled growth has created the ideal environment to observe and redevelop our processes
and procedures to reach the optimal level of performance. To date, Solus has conducted 10’s of thousands of events
and collected millions of data points.
So what gives Solus the credibility to tell a national corporation their methods are wrong and there is a better way?
No other company in history has ever had the type of exposure as Solus to 100’s of national facility departments,
thousands of vendors, manufacturers, and consultants, and millions of data points. Knowledge is power and Solus has
unmatched knowledge of patterns, behaviors, reasons for decision making, and management tactics to ensure success for
our clients. Our processes are continuously refined and strengthen year after year.
